Designed by the German architect Lazarewicz, it was completed in 1907. Originally the official residence of the German Governor of Kiautschou, it is a European castle‑style building that combines the typical architectural style of the Wilhelmine period with elements of the Jugendstil (Art Nouveau) movement.
